Pups are wormed at 2-4-6 weeks of age to ensure they are free of any parasite. They also receive their first series of vaccinations at about 7 weeks of age. Each pup leaves our home with a 2 year health guarantee and a certificate of good health from our vet. Our Puppy Contract is online for you to view. The pups are guaranteed healthy when they leave our home with a 72 hour return policy. We provide a two year health guarantee against any congenital or hereditary disabling disease. Your puppy will also be micro chipped and registered (AVID) before they leave us.

APPLICATION

Our Application is the first step taken when purchasing a puppy. Please fill out the application in detail and provide as much information as possible about your experience with dogs. This information helps us to recommend puppies that will fit into your situation and lifestyle based on personality, temperament and drives. Please include your plans for your puppy, how much time you have to spend with your dog, crate training, obedience training, if you plan to train the dog yourself or use an outside trainer etc…. Please also include the particular breeding you are interested in, and any questions you may have. We will email you once we have received your application.

On the application, we ask for a vet reference. This is a vet you have used previously for a dog or any other animal. Not necessarily the vet you plan to use now. The only question we ask this vet is if you have taken care of your pet and if the pet has received maintenance (shots & worming) and emergency care when needed. We do not get into personal issues.

Once the application is received and accepted, the next step is securing your puppy with a deposit.

DEPOSITS

To secure a puppy from a specific litter, a deposit is required. We accept deposits when pregnancy has been confirmed via blood work or ultrasound. The deposit amount is $500.00 (Canadian funds). We will email verification once the deposit has been received.
Deposits are non-refundable but may be bounced to another litter as many times as needed to get the puppy that is perfect for you.

When moving your deposit to another litter, you will be placed behind anyone already in place. We cannot move you ahead of someone else even if your deposit was received before theirs. You can send your deposit to:

LITTER EVALUATION

We complete a thorough litter evaluation (temperament test) at about 8 weeks of age. Another qualified breeder will be here to help us perform all the different aspects of the litter evaluation. A link to the test results will be placed on the puppy’s page for each individual pup. This information is a wonderful asset when choosing your puppy. Soon after the test results are complete, the puppy choice process begins. I will email the first person on the list (if that person is not in attendance) and work down form there. Everyone is welcome to attend the Litter Evaluation. It is a great place to meet all your puppy’s littermate’s families. Pictures will be taken of you and your new puppy and added to our site. Plan on it being a full day, depending on the size of the litter. We will have a light lunch and snacks will be provided. We can help out-of-town puppy buyers to make arrangements for a suitable hotel/motel in the area if needed.

CHOOSING YOUR PUPPY

Puppy choice is based on the order the deposits were received, the information we received on your application and the results of the Litter Evaluation. We understand the choice process is sometimes tough. We are available to help you make recommendations and help with such a critical decision. We don’t want a puppy going to the wrong home. It is very important that the right puppy temperament goes home with a well matched family. That is why we spend so much time on the evaluation and have you fill out the puppy application in detail. A wrong match could end in disaster.

SHIPPING

Pups are available for pick-up at 8 weeks of age. We prefer NOT to air ship puppies. We like them to leave our home and go directly into their new family’s waiting arms. If the situation arises when a puppy family cannot be here to pick up their puppy, we will arrange to ship throughout Canada and the U.S. via air cargo. Please email us for a quote on shipping.

Please note: We will not air ship puppies in the month of July or August for any reason.

BREEDER SUPPORT

We provide all our puppy families with support for the lifetime of the dog. After all, you are members of our KeyStone family now. We are available for any questions, concerns or problems that may arise after you receive your puppy.

We also request periodic updates on your puppy’s development, any accomplishments and titles your dog may receive and photos are always greatly appreciated. We ask that your dog’s hips/elbows are x-rayed between 12 & 18 months. This will help us and other Shiloh breeders to make sure that we are producing the best possible puppies. The Shiloh Shepherd is a rare breed and we are all striving to better the breed through good health practices and we need our puppy buyers to help us in this quest by doing the required health testing.

If we don’t have an answer to one of your questions, we belong to a network of Shiloh Shepherd breeders and trainers with many years of experience that we can contact. You can also join our Shiloh group. There are many wonderful breeders and Shiloh families posting here every day.

We also ask that you register your puppy with our dog club, the International Shiloh Shepherd Dog Club (ISSDC) . There is lots of information about the Shiloh Shepherd, late breaking news, stories, pictures, show information, and upcoming events in your area.
